AI Act published: When do which regulations apply?

  • The AI Act will enter into force on 1st August 2024
  • The respective regulations only apply in 6, 24 or 36 months after entry into force
  • Businesses should start dealing with the AI Act now

With the publication of the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) in the Official Journal of the EU on 12th July 2024, it will enter into force on the twentieth day after publication.

So-called “prohibited AI practices” are therefore prohibited from 2nd February 2025 (six months after entry into force).

The provisions on High-Risk AI systems apply from 2nd August 2027.

All other provisions of the AI Act will apply from 2nd August 2026.
